Take The Day Off

05/24/2021

Go ahead, take the day off. Sure, I'll give you permission. Well, I can't do that but the government did just that a long time ago to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday. It's still celebrated now on this day, but now it commemorates the birth of the reigning monarch of the time. Just so you know Elizabeth II was born April 21.

But let's do it!, take the day off. For most of us this means doing something extra. Go somewhere or do something different. Have lunch in the park for the first time in over a year. Watch the fireworks displays or just, yes you can do this, again my permission, just chill.

Most of you are thinking out loud at this point. You might be saying: "I've been taking most days off in one way or another for over a year". Isn't our whole life dripping with lock down and stay home order? I am starting to get conflicted. And that is why I am saying, take the day off, off of everything in our life that has some negativity connected to it. Don't turn on the tv as a friend reminded me yesterday, the news is saturated with what is happening with covid-19. And we need a break from the same old news.

Today needs to be your day on your terms and in your way. (while still obeying covid-19 rules). So what does this mean in my way of thinking? It means staying in bed as long as you want. (I made it to just after four am). It means having a big English morning fry up in place of cold cereal warmed up by a hot coffee. (I had the cold cereal) It can mean you will take the day off of yelling at the kids or saying negative things to anybody and anybody who invades your personal space.

It's taking on doing something positive, even to help someone else. Queen Victoria took more than a day off when her husband died. But for a long time, she didn't take a day off of mourning. We are still mourning the impact of what this virus had done to all of us but, let's make this Victoria Day a day off of negatives.

I believe someone finally stood in front of Victoria and told her, 'enough is enough'. Someone did the same thing with King David after he had mourned too long at the death of his son. They told him, 'enough is enough'. Maybe we have to hear those words to shake us out of this morose mentality and Thank God we are standing here at this moment, trusting in Him, to set us free. Didn't He say, 'be still and know that I am God'. Jesus also said something about knowing what He taught: Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' Have we forgotten the words of Amazing Grace?

Today can be our day to do nothing and accomplish it with a smile on our face and surrounded by positive thoughts as we let God care for us while we take the day off.

Something to think about
