A Peace Of The Storm

06/28/2021

Peace is not the absence of the storm.

Peace is the presence of God.

Have you been watching the weather patterns lately? It's a strange world right now and unfortunately it is also playing itself out in the weather. But here is something else I detected. Did you notice that our weather is also a mirror image of our lives?

It's true. What we see in the weather echoes or mirrors what we experience in our lives. In most cases, we live out the storm and move on to the next snow, or rain. Over the years I learned that on average we have only three to five significant snowfalls over the winter here in southern Ontario. How about our lives?

Now, what do you think of this pandemic? It's been quite the storm. Many of us have been waited in fear for it to change us, just like we wait for a killer tornado. Thank you Lord for taking care of us. Or can you imagine how a sprinkle of rain turns into a torrential storm that seems to have no end and the flood comes. Noah knew all about that. Which leads me to the imagine of Moses looking at the burning bush and thinking of the firefighters seeing the clouds of smoke while trying to put out a forest fire that won't give up.

Did you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel? Did you also know, that there is something good coming. Each and every one of us will in some way have at least one storm in the next 365 days. It's not if but when. But there is hope. This is where we bring together the storms in our world with the storms in our lives and the only one who can calm every storm.

We metaphorically look out our large picture window of life and watch, cringing over the 'what ifs'. At times it seems a never ending parade of seemingly endless rolling clouds and unending storms. We pull the drapes and try to get comfortable in our favourite comfy chair only to be rattled again by the pounding rain and the lightening accompanied thunder. We run with the dog and hide under the bed.

But this is what I know. In all these storms and strange weather patterns, there is still the sun shining about the clouds. In our life gales, physical, mental, emotional relational or spiritual, the Son is still shining. He is still there looking down on us and telling us, it's okay.

As Jesus slept during the storm on the sea, the disciples didn't know what to do. They not only feared for their lives, they could not believe that Jesus, not only was He sleeping but He wasn't moved by the raging storm all around. Why, because in the moment when Jesus woke up He only had three words to say: "Storm be still". He is doing it again, right now for you and for me. No matter what our storm is right now, He knows and He will be there, and soon, the clouds will roll away and the Son shall shine in our life. After all, He was there all the time when we could only see the storm.

Something to think about

Rob
